In 1830s, Britain and Portugal smuggled opium into China's southern border.
A large number of opium pport is harmful to the health of our people, and numerous gold and silver flows abroad.
Emperor Qingdao accepted Lin Zexu's ban on smoking. Lin Zexu was sent to Guangzhou to investigate and punish, forcing foreign opium traders to give up more than 20 thousand boxes of opium in Humen, weighing a total of 1175 tons.
In order to destroy these harmful drugs, two large pools were built, 45 meters long and wide.
The bottom of the pool is paved with stone plates, piles and nails around the columns, a culvert beside the pond, and a ditch through the pond.
When destroying opium, we first store water in the pool and salt it into a concentrated brine. We pour the opium into the pool in batches and dissolve it in concentrated brine.
Then add lime to stir, and immediately cause reaction.
The explosion was opened and decomposed.
Finally, mix these wastes together.
The residue
Wash away with the river and leave no drops.
Three weeks later, it was completely destroyed.
At that time (from June 3, 1839 to 25), the potable boards, wooden posts and other relics in the smoking pool were displayed at the Museum of Opium War near the pool.
There is a "Opium War Humen people's anti British monument" beside the smoking pool.
The museum used 141 objects, 130 historical photographs, 19 charts, 12 large oil paintings and 3 large scenes to vividly reproduce the scenes of war that shocked China and foreign countries more than 150 years ago.
The Sha Kok fort, Humen, which is 10 kilometers away from Humen's smoking pool, is just the throat of the Pearl River.
It passes north to Whampoa, and the situation is dangerous. It is called Humen fortress.
During the period of the Qing Dynasty, there was a turret in the Kangxi period. On the eve of the Opium War, Lin Zexu, Guan Tianpei, and so on, were built 11 seats on both sides of Humen and Haikou and isxia, and there were more than 300 artillery doors.
During the Opium War between Britain and China, the British Invaders repeatedly repulsed by the fort of Humen were written down in modern Chinese history.
